Bunchō Tani Galleries

Bunchō (1763-1840) experimented with many different painting styles during his career but for most of his flower-bird art he used a Chinese style which exaggerated a subject's characteristic features in an attempt to reveal its inner spirit. Consequently, the shapes and colors of flowers and birds drawn by Bunchō are not true-to-life.
